How we raise our kittens

How many litters do we have a year?
We are a small home based cattery and have 1-2 litters per year. (This ensures the moms are well rested and also that the kittens get the individual attention they need).

Where do the kittens grow up?
The kittens grow up in our farmhouse in the Cape Winelands in Cape Town, South Africa. They have their own room and their moms look after them there for the first few weeks. When the mom cat is ready, she allows the older cats to meet the kittens, and then raising the kittens becomes a family affair :)

How do you ensure your kittens are healthy?
Our mom and dad cats are genetically tested to exlude all common genetic disease found in cats (PK-def, PKD, PRA etc).
Our kittens attend vet visits each month and undergo the the standardised immunisation schedule to protect them against all known feline diseases.
Our kittens are raised on a balanced diet most close to what they would eat in nature: raw meats (beef, game, ostritch, chicken)

How are the kittens socialised?
Our kittens are extremely well socialised. They grow up on our farm amongst older cats, chickens, ducks, dogs and humans young and old. We try to expose them to as much as possible so that they are ready to take on any environment. They do not roam outside freely, but they do spend a lot of supervised time outdoors or in their catio. We also take them on regular short drives to get them used to traveling.

When are kittens ready to go to their new homes?
Kittens are usually ready to go to their new homes on average between 14-16 weeks.

How do I reserve a kitten?
In order to reserve a kitten, you need to first apply to be on the waiting list (apply here).
Once we have received and reviewed your application, we will confirm with you and put you on the waiting list. We regularly update our waiting list about matings and the timeline of future litters.

When kittens are 8 weeks old and have passed their first vet health check, we begin with reservations. To reserve a kitten, one pays 50% non-refundable deposit (and the balance can be paid upon delivery).
We try our very best to match our kittens and your preferences. You are welcome to ask us more details about the process once you have applied to be on the waiting list.
It is best to apply long in advance, as our kittens are in high demand and the rarer colours are also very hard to come by. Most of our kittens have potential homes before they are even born. That said, there are sometimes cancellations and a kitten may become available on short notice, but this is more an exception than the rule.
